Upcoming Workshops
I offer half-day, day-long, and weekend workshops virtually, as well as in Asheville (Fairview) NC, and occasionally other U.S. locations. Participants can choose from a range of modalities to suit their own schedule and requirements including Holotropic Breathwork, Focus Breathwork, and Breathwork & Internal Family Systems.
Essentials of IFS Online Training Program
Providing a practical understanding of the IFS modality
Have you ever said, “I wish I didn’t…” or “I wish I could stop...”? Does this mean that there is more than one “I” inside of you? In a way, yes. Despite sincere intentions, different parts of our psyche can sometimes take on extreme roles or behave in ways that are out of touch with our own best interests.
How does Internal Family Systems help?
IFS is an approach to psychotherapy that identifies and harmonizes sub-personalities that are in discord within the psyche. Through healing these discordant parts of our psyche, IFS restores balance among the sub-personalities and the Self. Developed by Richard Schwartz, Ph.D. in the ’90s, IFS is a dynamic, effective way to allow Self-energy to bring balance and healing to our internal system. IFS guides us towards the foundation of being that has been with us from the first breath... The core of our true Self.
Group Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Cohort 14 Fall Foliage Intensive
For this October cohort, Amy Borskey Duffer and I, with medical direction from Drs. Ron Parks and Zak Foy, are offering a closed group that will experience Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) influenced by the Holotropic Breathwork model. This intensive version of GroupKAP is meant especially for those that live in other locations, so they can visit Asheville for a week of three ketamine sessions.
The format of the intensives are different in that we do not meet online in between sessions. There will be virtual orientations on October 14 and 16 and a virtual follow up on November 6. The medicine workshop days are October 20, 22, and 24. We will offer an integration experience such as nature immersion, movement, or Soul Collage each day. We are looking to find the most benefit from the neuroplasticity created by the medicine.
The whole process will be guided by the Internal Family Systems perspective, which aligns brilliantly with the nonordinary state work and allows compassion for parts that fear the journey.

Holotropic Breathwork
Due to Helene-related cancellations, we have a few spaces left in this workshop now.
Throughout history, virtually every culture has provided an opportunity and a method to access nonordinary states of consciousness for inner exploration and healing. These methods have included drumming, chanting, dancing, fasting, ingesting psychoactive plants, altering breathing patterns, and many others. Drawing from centuries of such wisdom and adding insights from modern consciousness research, Holotropic Breathwork facilitates access to all levels of human experience, including unfinished biographical material, birth memories, transpersonal phenomena, and residues of trauma stored in the body.
Conducted in pairs in a safe and supportive setting, the process uses accelerated breathing, evocative music, and focused body work to transcend normal limitations and empower the inner healer. Group sharing allows integration of the nonordinary experience with daily life.
Note: for the first time since before the pandemic, we are offering the full, official Holotropic Breathwork format! Dinner is included.
Facilitated by Ted Riskin, LCSW and Amy Borskey Duffer, MA, LCAS.

Agenda
A week or so before the workshop, you will be sent a link where you can learn about the work of Stanislav Grof, nonordinary states of consciousness, and his exposition of the “Basic Perinatal Matrices” or stages of the birth process and their effect on the psyche.
9:00 am — Introductions, questions, demonstration of the breathing technique, partnerships
10:45 am — First breathing session
1:45 pm — Mandala drawing and lunch
2:30 pm — Second breathing session
5:30 pm — Mandala drawing and dinner
6:45 pm — Closing circle
8:00 pm — End
Health & Safety
With fans and a large area of windows, we can create effective ventilation. However, keep in mind that you will be in a room where people are breathing in and out with gusto. Of course, if you are not well on the day of the workshop, we ask that you stay home.

Group Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Cohort 13
Amy Borskey Duffer and I, with medical direction from Drs. Zak Foy and Ron Parks, are interviewing prospective participants for the next cohort of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) incorporating the Holotropic Breathwork model. Participants will receive four weekend in-person ketamine experiences with same-day integration, along with online integration groups. We are looking to find the most benefit from the neuroplasticity created by the medicine. The whole process will be guided by the Internal Family Systems perspective, which aligns brilliantly with the nonordinary state work and allows compassion for parts that fear the journey.
The process begins with an orientation session on August 30. See all of the details at www.groupkap.com.

Simon Newton’s Art of Undoing
Simon will be available to offer brief craniosacral interventions as participants let go to the medicine, and to assist in integration.
He has a lifelong history with alternative approaches to being and inner states of awareness. It all began with a near death experience at age two, during which he felt the breathless beauty of infinite silence. After studying Applied Psychology at Sussex University he spent several years alternating between holy sites in India and permaculture projects in the UK before settling in Glastonbury, England.
He has studied in the Kriya Yoga tradition with Roy Eugene Davis since 2000 and has led meditation groups in 3 countries. He now has a private practice in Asheville, NC, practicing Craniosacral Therapy with his three Savannah cats. To see the synthesis of psychology, spiritual and psychedelics emerging in the public sphere is a lifelong dream of his. You can read about Simon at his website.

Along with certifications in Core Energetics, hypnotherapy, Internal Family Systems, Breath Therapy, and EMDR, he is certified in Holotropic Breathwork by Stanislav Grof, MD. He served for five years as President of the Association for Holotropic Breathwork International (AHBI) and eight years as the music editor for The Inner Door. He has been facilitating Holotropic workshops regularly since January 1997, except for during the pandemic years, when he switched to offering breathwork online. In March 2022, drawing on his experience leading breathwork workshops, he began offering Group Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy.
Amy Borskey Duffer is a Board-Certified Dance/movement Therapist, Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor, and a Psychedelic Integration and Transformational Recovery Coach, certified by Being True to You. She has been exploring the use of psychedelics and non-ordinary states of consciousness for healing and expansion since 2019. While all aspects of the psychedelic journey are important, she has particular interest in the integration phase — exploring how to take what is learned during an experience into our lives to achieve growth and wholeness. Amy has extensive experience in holding loving space for seekers of peace and healing with a background in both group and individual therapy work. You can find out more about her and her work here.
Focus Breathwork
Throughout history, virtually every culture has provided an opportunity and a method to access nonordinary states of consciousness for inner exploration and healing. These methods have included drumming, chanting, dancing, fasting, ingesting psychoactive plants, altering breathing patterns, and many others. Drawing from centuries of such wisdom and adding insights from modern consciousness research, breathwork facilitates access to all levels of human experience, including unfinished biographical material, birth memories, transpersonal phenomena, and residues of trauma stored in the body.
Conducted in pairs in a safe and supportive setting, the process uses accelerated breathing, evocative music, and focused body work to transcend normal limitations and empower the inner healer. Group sharing allows integration of the nonordinary experience with daily life.
Facilitated by Ted Riskin, LCSW and Amy Borskey Duffer, MA, LCAS.

Agenda
Anyone who is new to breathwork, or who wants a refresher, is invited to arrive at 12:45 for a review of the breathing technique and to get any questions answered. After the rest of the group arrives, we begin with introductions at 1:00. We then make sure everyone has a partner for the day and prepare for the breathwork. We conduct two breathing sessions to music of approximately 80 minutes, each participant having a chance to experience the breathwork as well as to hold space for a partner. We end with group sharing of any material that arose during the day.
Health & Safety
When we scheduled this workshop, Coronavirus cases in Buncombe County were pretty stable at 8 per 100,000, the lowest they have been in a year. With fans and a large area of windows, we can create effective ventilation. However, keep in mind that you will be in a room where people are breathing in and out with gusto. Of course, if you are not well on the day of the workshop, we ask that you stay home.

Group Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Cohort 11
For this fall foliage cohort, Amy Borskey Duffer and I, with medical direction from Drs.
There will be virtual orientations on October 18 and 20 and a virtual follow up on November 1. We will still offer an integration experience such as nature immersion, movement, or Soul Collage each day. We are looking to find the most benefit from the neuroplasticity created by the medicine.
The whole process will be guided by the Internal Family Systems perspective, which aligns brilliantly with the nonordinary state work and allows compassion for parts that fear the journey.

Group Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Cohort 10 — Focus on Death and Dying
Amy Borskey Duffer and I, with medical direction from Drs. Zak Foy and Ron Parks, are interviewing prospective participants for the next cohort of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) incorporating the Holotropic Breathwork model. By offering KAP in a group, we can drastically lower the financial barrier to receiving this exciting new treatment, while also allowing folks to experience the support of like-minded co-journeyers.
This cohort will be the first with a specific theme. In conjunction with the Center for Conscious Living and Dying and the School for Unusual Life Learning, we will be exploring parts that are anxious or curious about the dying process. Of all psychedelic medicines, ketamine has been shown to overlap the most with near death experiences.
The process begins with an orientation session on September 18. See all of the details at www.groupkap.com.
Stay Home and Journey with Your Parts
